Tracking location of employees

Location of employees can be tracked through the mobile app. This feature is available in both Android and iOS mobile applications.

This feature can be enabled by Application Administrator from Attendance Setup.

Location tracking can done in two ways.

1. Basic location tracking

Location is tracked with the help of a manual updation of the location by the employee on the mobile app. Refer to the article on Updating location through mobile app for more details.

Basic and Advanced location tracking data can be reviewed through Attendance Reports > Location Tracking.

By default only the latitude / longitude are captured when location is captured. To also get the address the Geo-coding service needs to be enabled from the marketplace. Within this service "Basic Location Tracking" option needs to be enabled.

2. Advanced location tracking

Through this feature location is tracked continuously during the working hours through the mobile app. Points to understand about this feature are -
1. Location is tracked during the shift hours or when a attendance punch is received (whichever is earlier)
2. Location is not tracked on days which are defined Weekly Off or Compulsory Holidays as per the calendar
3. Location data is used to show the current location or the route taken by an employee

Refer to the table below to understand how the duration / days on which location is tracked is handled. This feature is only available if the attendance method is Mobile or Web or Biometric. If attendance method includes biometric then location tracking is done only till the end of shift time.

To allow advanced location tracking employees will need to give access to the location tracking service "always" and not "only when application is in use". Refer article on Enabling permission in mobile app - Android and Enabling permission in mobile app - IOS for more details.
